With almost 500 species of birds, Chile is a thrilling place for birdwatchers. While not all 500 live along Chile's 2,600km coastline, you’ll no doubt see a wealth of sea birds that inhabit the Central Coast. One of the best places to go birdwatching along the Central Coast is the marshlands, not far from the city of Valparaiso.
After picking you up at your hotel in Santiago, we’ll drive for an hour and a half to Mantagua Wetland, located in the Concon- Quintero area.
Here you’ll be met by your guide who will tell you all about the area and the bird species you can find here, before taking you on a walking or kayaking tour through the wetland. You’ll be able to see native Chilean flora and well as the Black-headed duck, Cocoi heron, Red-legged and Guanay Cormorant, Grey gull and Peruvian booby just to name a few.
While the tour can be done walking, we highly recommend the kayaking option which takes you deeper into the wetland and gives you the opportunity to spot more species.
After a late lunch, either at the cafe of the Wetlands Centre or in the seaside town of Concon we’ll head back to your hotel in Santiago.
Tour is a full day (7 hours) - 9.30 am pickup and we aim to be back at your hotel at 4.30 pm.
Private transportation and our English, Spanish or Portuguese speaking driver/guide.
